Our path towards sustainability is enhanced by two important additional milestones: Real Ecological Leather and Oeko-Tex

Exactly ten years after obtaining the first certification, which laid the foundations of our great commitment aimed at improving the safety of workers, the quality of our products, the reliability of our processes and, last but not least, the environmental compatibility of our processes to promote a development that responds to the needs of the present without compromising on the ability of future generations to satisfy their own, in September 2021 we secured two other important achievements which, added to the previous ones, help to testify that the will to act and communicate in a credible and responsible way is an essential part of our DNA.

Ecological leathers

The certification of leathers with a low environmental impact, promoted by ICEC, is based on the national UNI 11427: 2015 standard, which defines the minimum product and environmental process requirements, and also establishes the performance characteristics (for any type of tanning process) leather must possess to be called “ecological” leather or other similar terms, differentiating it from traditional production processes.

The indicators were calculated over the entire hide production process, starting from the raw material up to the finished leather, ready to be shipped and used in the manufacturing industry, including all the stages of the process, even if carried out by suppliers or subcontractors.

The remarkable goal achieved by the standard was therefore to shed light on the meaning to be attributed to “leather”: in fact, only the materials of natural origin processed through tanning may be identified as such, whereas the use of this term to identify everything that artificially reproduces its appearance, such as synthetics, coated fabrics, etc. is not legitimate.

The LEATHER STANDARD certification by OEKO-TEX®, implemented by the International Association for Research and Testing in the Field of Textile and Leather Ecology in 2017, actually follows OEKO-TEX® 1992 philosophy, but applies to the production of leather, identifying as many as 300 substances that are harmful to humans, which could be used in production processes.

Our goal is to document in a transparent manner the responsibilities assumed on a daily basis to ensure the safety of our hides, along the entire production chain, up to the brands, retailers and final consumers.

Thanks to this certification, we can guarantee that our leather has been subjected to strict checks by independent international laboratories, and has been produced using fewer chemicals.

The environment, once again, thanks us!
